Inspired by popular Indian film music composer A.R. Rahman since the age of 4, I have always wanted a music related career. As such, I started learning the electronic organ when I was 9. However, I managed to only complete up to Grade 4 of the course due to financial reasons. Nevertheless, my interest in music still lives on and my ambition is to set up my own recording studio in Singapore in the near future.
Hence in April 2009, I took up the diploma in audio engineering at SAE Institute in Singapore, to acquire knowledge about the process of recording, mixing and mastering. Upon completing the diploma in April 2010, I started on the Bachelor Degree in Audio Production course which I am currently pursuing, to understand the business aspects of the music industry. Concurrently, in a bid to learn the principles of marketing through a hands-on approach, I have recently started a sole-proprietorship marketing consultancy, PJ Marketing services. Through this marketing consultancy, I would be offering consultation services to recording studios in Singapore with regards to marketing, repositioning and rebranding. The experience that I gain from this venture, would be of great value for marketing my own recording studio in future.
Apart from being passionate about music, I also have an interest in making short films. It all began during my secondary school days when I got the opportunity to work on my first short film, Fantasy Beer in 2003 which was based on the concept that alcohol consumption leads to a loss of peace in life. It was truly an eye opening experience that thought me the basics of film making. During the 2 years at Innova Junior College, I got the opportunity to work on 2 more short films, namely Delusions in 2005 and Coin in 2006. Thanks to my lecturer Mr Lee Peck Ping, Delusions was screened at The Substation's First Take in June 2006. After my graduation upon completing my 'A' Levels in 2006, my third short film Coin was screened at Cathay Cineleisure Orchard in 2007 as part of the film festival Festival Di' Arts organised by Innova Junior College. Subsequently, due to National Service commitments and pursuing my higher studies, I have not been able to work on more short films but I hope to do so some time soon in the coming years.
In this blog, I have posted two of my short films Delusions and Coin as well as the recordings that I have done during my Diploma in Audio Engineering and Bachelor of Arts in Audio Production at SAE Institute in Singapore. Do take a look at them and please feel free to send me your comments via email at n.punjoonathan@saesingapore.com.
